Although we cannot claim any of the cats in our care are purebred as they come from shelters and other rescue situations, we suspect that Van is a purebred Turkish Van.  She has all the characteristics of a Turkish Van.  Her coat feels like cashmere or rabbit fut.  It lacks an undercoat and has a silky, sleek appearance.   It is very water repellant and dries quickly.  Van is an intelligent, people oriented cat who will develop a strong bond with her person and will not be happy if she can't hang out with them.   She is in a foster home with other cats, but really doesn't like them invading her personal space and will growl at them to warn them off.  She can be a bit temperamental when over stimulated and can nip or scratch to let you know she has had enough (when brushing her beautiful fur for example) so she would not be a good companion for small children.

Prior to being placed up for adoption, all cats (5 months and older), at minimum, receive a veterinary exam and are neutered/spayed, tested negative for FeLuk/FIV, microchipped, current on booster(s) and Rabies vaccination, de-wormed, and flea treated, and checked and treated for ear mites if needed.
