We've only had Earl a short time so far, but he seems just about perfect in every way: he immediately made friends with the other dog in his foster home; he doesn't bother the cats (even when they aren't being very nice to him); he is housebroken; doesn't jump on people; and even though he loves affection, he is just fine snoozing at your feet.
